- Ensure the student understands that progress, no matter how small, is valuable.

6. *Communicate Regularly with Parents/Guardians:*

- Keep parents or guardians informed about the student’s challenges and progress.

- Work together to provide consistent support both at home and in school.

- Encourage parental involvement in helping with study routines or providing additional resources.

7. *Adapt Your Approach:*

- Recognize that each student is unique and may require different strategies.

- Be flexible and willing to adjust your methods based on the student’s needs and preferences.

- Monitor progress and remain patient, as improvement may take time.

8. *Foster a Growth Mindset:*

- Help the student understand that struggles are a natural part of learning.

- Reinforce the idea that intelligence and skills can improve through effort and persistence.

- Encourage resilience and perseverance when challenges arise.

9. *Promote Self-Reflection:*

- Encourage the student to reflect on their learning style, strengths, and areas for improvement.

- Help them identify what strategies work best for them in studying and learning.

- Teach them to recognize their own progress, fostering a sense of ownership over their academic growth.

Dear Educators, remember, supporting a struggling learner requires patience, consistency, and a willingness to adjust strategies to fit the student’s individual needs. Every student has unique strengths and challenges, so be persistent in helping them realize their full potential.

HOW TO MAKE YOUR TEACHING MEMORABLE

One of the major challenges in teaching is ensuring that learners can effectively recall what they have learned. To address this, it's essential for teachers to employ strategies that make their teaching memorable. Here are several ways to achieve this:

1. *Use Storytelling* : Share personal anecdotes or real-life stories to illustrate key concepts. This approach can make the material more relatable and engaging, helping students to better connect with the content.

2. *Incorporate Visuals* : Utilize diagrams, charts, images, and other visual aids to reinforce your lessons. Research shows that learners tend to remember what they see more than what they hear. As the saying goes: "Seeing is believing."

3. *Use Analogies* : Draw comparisons between complex concepts and something more familiar to students. Analogies make challenging ideas easier to grasp and remember.

4. *Integrate Humour* : Lighten the mood with humor to keep students engaged and break up lengthy lessons. Just be sure the humor aligns with the topic and is appropriate for the audience.

5. *Incorporate Interactive Activities:* Encourage active participation through group discussions, role-playing exercises, or hands-on experiments. These activities help students internalize the material by engaging them directly.

6. *Provide Real-World* Examples: Connect lessons to current events or situations relevant to students' lives. This shows how the material is applicable beyond the classroom and enhances its memorability.

7. *Use Repetition* : Repeating key information throughout the lesson can help solidify it in students' minds. The more often they encounter important concepts, the easier it will be for them to retain the information.

Dear Educators, remember that learners absorb information in various ways. By using a mix of strategies, you can ensure that your teaching resonates with all students. May you be blessed as you adapt your approach to meet the diverse needs of your learners.

SOCIAL BONDING: TEACHER-LEARNER RELATIONSHIP

Yesterday morning, I saw a 2-year-old child who detached her hand from her mother and ran to embrace the school gateman. The mother watched in amazement, while I wondered why she didn’t run toward the awaiting teachers. That moment sparked the thought of social bonding.

Imagine if that passionate gateman were her teacher. I’m sure it would not be difficult for him to teach and nurture her. Mentorship, Counseling and Guidance services to the girl would be very easy.. In fact, he would help the girl thrive both academically and personally. This is the power of a passionate heart for learners—it fosters the social bonding necessary to cultivate healthy relationships between learners and educators, which leads to personal growth and better academic outcomes.

A strong social bond, in turn, creates a positive and productive educational environment, fostering emotional well-being essential for the personal development of learners. When teachers show genuine interest in their students' well-being and academic progress, students feel valued. This boosts their motivation and encourages them to strive for personal and academic growth. Interestingly, a positive teacher-student relationship also builds trust and respect. Trust between learners and teachers is foundational for effective communication and collaboration. When students trust their teachers, they are more likely to seek help, ask questions, and open up about their struggles, leading to improved learning outcomes. Are you a trusted and passionate Teacher?

Dear Educators, remember there are three loves you need to demonstrate to go beyond being a professional to become a passionate Teacher: LOVE of LEARNING, LOVE of the LEARNERS, and LOVE of Combining both. Genuinely love learning and your learners, and you will be amazed at the positive results you’ll see in your students.

EXPLORE, DREAM AND DISCOVER

"Twenty years from now, you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore, Dream, Discover." — *H. Jackson Brown Jr* .The quote above encourages us to take risks and embrace opportunities rather than staying in our comfort zones. Even the Bible says, " *Woe to them that are at ease in Zion..." (Amos 6:1).* The idea is that, looking back in the future, we may regret the things we didn’t try—our missed opportunities—more than the mistakes we made or the challenges we faced. The things you didn’t attempt will weigh on you more than the things you tried. So, set aside your fears, break free from the familiar and embrace new adventures. Let go of the security of the “safe harbor,” take action, step out of your comfort zone, and explore the opportunities life offers. *Explore, Dream and Discover* https://pastorafolabi.cw.center/ @ *afo4Jesus*

BOSS vs. LEADER: UNDERSTANDING THE DIFFERENCE IN LEADERSHIP STYLES

A boss and a leader are two distinct roles that can sometimes overlap, but they have different approaches to managing and guiding others.

A boss is typically someone who is in a position of authority and is responsible for overseeing the work of others. They are often focused on tasks, deadlines, and achieving specific goals. A boss may use a more top-down (hierarchical) approach to management, providing clear instructions and expectations for their team. They may also be more concerned with maintaining control and ensuring that tasks are completed efficiently.

On the other hand, a leader is someone who inspires and motivates others to work towards a shared vision and common goal. They are often focused on building relationships, fostering collaboration, and creating a positive work environment. A leader may use a more collaborative approach to management, encouraging input and ideas from their team members and empowering them to take ownership of their work. They may also be more concerned with developing their team's skills and helping them grow professionally.

Summarily, a boss is primarily focused on tasks and achieving specific goals, a leader is more focused on people and inspiring them to work towards a common goal. While both bosses and leaders play important roles in organizations, research has shown that a leadership style is generally more effective than a bossy style. Dear Educators, *BE A LEADER!*

HIDDEN FACTS ABOUT LEADERSHIP

Whenever you hear the word " *leader* ," remember that everyone leads in some capacity. However, to be an influencer, you must be a visionary. You need to think critically, seek win-win solutions, prioritize (putting first things first), and be proactive. Above all, a great leader must emphasize character and integrity.

Leadership isn't about being the smartest person in the room but about empowering others to be smarter. Therefore, embrace Collaborative Leadership, develop Emotional Intelligence, communicate effectively, foster a positive team culture, lead by example, encourage continuous learning, and inspire others.

As former Nigerian President Dr. Goodluck Jonathan once said, "Adversity is a crucible for leadership. Nobody becomes a General without fighting wars." This highlights the importance of resilience in leadership, especially in the face of challenges.

As I’ve mentioned, everyone leads, but are you a *good leader* ? Study the image above to learn more about effective leadership.

Have a great day ahead!

CREATING A FOCUSED AND RESPECTFUL CLASSROOM ENVIRONMENT

Dear Teachers,

The subject above represents one of the major responsibilities of a *good* teacher. Teachers who are not adequately trained in classroom management may find it challenging to maintain a positive and productive learning environment. Below are a few key steps to help manage learners' behavior during lesson periods:

1. *Arrive on Time:* Be punctual to your lessons and inform your learners in advance if there is any change in the venue.

2. *Set Clear Expectations:* Ensure students are aware of classroom rules and the consequences for not adhering to them. As the Bible says in 1 Corinthians 14:8, "For if the trumpet give an uncertain sound, who shall prepare himself to the battle?" Make the dos and don’ts clear.

3. *Good Communication* : For effective teaching and learning, encourage students to listen attentively while teaching is going on or when a class member is contributing. Avoid allowing chorus answers. Speak audibly and with clarity to ensure that all students can hear and understand.

4. *Maintaining Eye Contact and Effective Non-Verbal Communication* – Using body language, eye contact, and other non-verbal cues to engage with students and manage learners' behavior.

5. *Be Present and Engaged:* Teachers should move around the classroom and avoid distractions such as phone use. Don't always sit down to teach or stay at the same spot.

6. *Adopting Effective Teaching Strategies* – Using tailored teaching methods, such as planned repetition, asking and entertaining questions to keep students engaged and support their learning

7. *Engage Learners:* Incorporate interactive and stimulating activities to maintain student interest and reduce disruptive behavior. Use instructional materials frequently and incorporate practical work.

8. *Providing Access to Equitable Learning Resources* – Ensure that all students have access to the materials and tools needed to succeed in their learning.

9. *Be Flexible (Firm but Friendly):* Be fair in your judgment and maintain a balanced approach to discipline. That is, a balance of authority and approachability. .

10. *Supporting Struggling Learners* – Offering extra help and resources to students who need additional support to succeed.

11. *Proactive Classroom Management* : Monitor students closely and address disruptions early, before they escalate.

12. *Use Positive/Negative Reinforcement* : Acknowledge good behavior to promote a positive learning atmosphere. You can use colored cards (Green – Merit – 2 marks for classwork, Yellow – Warning for disruption, Red – Demerit – kneel down and minus 2 marks).

13. *Rearrange Learners’ Seats* : Destructive learners may need to be seated closer to the teacher for better monitoring.

14. *Mild Punishments: Use mild punishments* such as standing up, closing eyes, or kneeling in front of the classroom (not outside). Please avoid corporal punishment

15. *Seeking Adequate Training –* Continuously improving your skills in class organization and management to ensure a productive learning environment.

16. *Last Resort – Follow-Up* : If a student's behavior continues to disrupt the learning environment, please inform the school head for further support.

Dear Educators, the classroom is a place for interaction, not interruption. Learn to create an enabling environment where all students can thrive and always make your leadership presence count

And remember, *Consistency* is key to maintaining discipline among learners. Let’s work together to provide the best learning experience for our students always.

Thanks.

DATA-DRIVEN EDUCATION

Today, I want to share with you my experience at the seminar delivered by Adetokunbo Matilukuro (Director of Education, Corona Schools Trust Council, Nigeria) on 29th February 2024 for TEACHMINT. The seminar topic was *Data-Driven Decision Making: Enhancing School Performance and Student Outcomes* .

Data-driven education is transforming teaching and learning by using data to guide decisions and tailor instruction. This approach enables educators to evaluate student performance more accurately and adjust their teaching methods to address each student's specific needs. With access to real-time data from various assessment tools such as classwork, assignments, practical work, projects, and tests, teachers can identify strengths and areas for improvement, ensuring students receive the targeted support necessary for success.

One of the primary advantages of data-driven education is its ability to gather feedback from students and track progress over time. This allows teachers to intervene when necessary and adapt their lessons to foster individual growth. It also promotes a more inclusive learning environment by helping educators identify and address achievement gaps, ensuring equal opportunities for all students, regardless of background.

As data becomes increasingly central to education, teachers must adapt by developing skills in data analysis and interpretation. They need to utilize data effectively to enhance learning while maintaining the essential human connections that make teaching truly impactful. By balancing data with empathy, educators can create personalized and effective learning experiences, preparing students for success in a data-driven world.

Dear educators, don’t just teach—take the time to assess your students effectively, interpret their individual data, and make the right decisions to support their achievement.

God bless you as you continue to shape the future of leaders in your classroom.

EDUCATION REVOLUTION: WHAT NIGERIAN TEACHERS MUST KNOW IN 2025*

In 2025, Nigerian educators find themselves at a crucial crossroads. With rapid technological advancements and societal shifts, teachers have a unique opportunity to shape the future of education. Embracing innovation is vital for teachers who wish to remain relevant in a world that demands constant adaptation. As Nigeria strives to improve its educational system, teachers must lead the charge, transforming their approach to teaching and taking charge of their evolution.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is an essential tool that will reshape education. Teachers should view AI as an ally rather than a threat, using it to personalize learning, automate administrative tasks, and monitor student performance in real-time. Platforms like ChatGPT and adaptive learning systems can revolutionize lesson delivery, giving teachers more time for mentorship and meaningful student interaction. Those who fail to adopt these technologies risk being left behind in an increasingly tech-driven world.

Data-driven education is another critical shift. Teachers who understand how to collect and use student data will be better equipped to support individual needs, adjust teaching methods, and identify students at risk. In this new paradigm, educators become data analysts, refining their approach to improve outcomes. For Nigerian teachers, integrating data into their practice is essential for staying competitive and creating a more effective educational environment.

Looking ahead, teachers must embrace hybrid learning, where online platforms and traditional classroom instruction work in tandem. This flexible model allows for inclusivity and accommodates diverse learning preferences. Additionally, the focus should shift toward skills development rather than rote memorization. Teachers must foster creativity, critical thinking, and adaptability, equipping students for real-world challenges. As Nigerian teachers step into this transformative era, they must not only adapt but also lead the revolution, ensuring that education prepares students for an ever-changing future.

Stay current & remain relevant!

A CHANGE OF ATTITUDE

Philippians 4:13

Attitude is everything, as suggested by the title of the book authored by Jeff Keller.  Obviously ATTITUDE determines your ALTITUDE.

Attitude refers to a person’s settled way of thinking or feeling about someone or something, typically reflected in their behavior. It encompasses beliefs, feelings, and dispositions that guide how a person reacts to situations or interacts with others. A positive or constructive attitude can significantly influence a person’s growth, mental well-being, and relationships. In this piece, I will discuss three types of attitudes that must be adopted for growth and development to take place.

1. *CAN-DO ATTITUDE*
A positive attitude helps individuals face challenges with resilience and perseverance. According to Philippians 4:13, the Apostle Paul says, "I can do all this through him who gives me strength." A "can-do" attitude, therefore, helps individuals overcome difficulties by relying on strength beyond themselves. Dear reader, you can do all things if only you can BELIEVE IN YOURSELF!

2.*GROWTH-ORIENTED ATTITUDE*
This attitude promotes self-discipline and focus toward goals and responsibilities, leading to personal development. People with a growth-oriented attitude are more likely to remain committed to improving themselves in whatever they do, constantly striving for excellence. According to God's word, your eye must be single (Matthew 6:22) by staying focused on your goals and striving to achieve them through self-discipline.

3. *CHRIST-CENTERED ATTITUDE*
A Christ-centered attitude, rooted in faith, encourages spiritual maturity and development. A positive attitude toward God and His Word leads to deeper understanding, peace, and a more fulfilling life. Romans 12:2 reminds us: "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind." This passage emphasizes that adopting a renewed, positive attitude in alignment with God's teachings leads to transformation and growth.

Dear friends, POSITIVE ATTITUDE is the foundation for holistic personal growth. Until you develop this, you will continue to dwell at the base of the success ladder thinking you can't do what God has already given you the capacity to do.

Someone shared an interesting insight about "the mathematics of life' that caught my attention. By assigning numbers 1-26 to the English alphabet, he summed up the equivalent numbers representing words such as:

L+U+C+K
12 + 21 + 3 + 11 = 47%

M+O+N+E+Y
13 + 15 + 14 + 5 + 25 = 72%

K+N+O+W+L+E+D+G+E
11 + 14 + 15 + 23 + 12 + 5 + 4 + 7 + 5 = 96%

H+A+R+D+W+O+R+K
8 + 1 + 18 + 4 + 23 + 15 + 18 + 11 = 98%

None of these add up to 100%; so none of these isn't what you really need about everything you desire in life.

Then what makes 100%?

Of course, ATTITUDE...(Try this sum)

A+T+T+I+T+U+D+E = 1 + 20 + 20 + 9 + 20 + 21 + 4 + 5 = 100%

It is, therefore, OUR ATTITUDE toward life and work that makes OUR life 100% successful because every problem has a solution, only if we change our attitude for the better. ATTITUDE IS EVERYTHING

Let’s therefore change our ATTITUDE toward life and the things we do this year 2025; and sooner than later, we will realize that we can do all things through CHRIST, who gives us strength.

See you at the top

MOTIVATION TRIGGERS THE LEARNING PROCESS

Motivation is the internal force that drives, directs, and sustains goal-oriented behavior. It is the reason why individuals take action, stay committed to tasks, and achieve their goals. Motivation can stem from both internal and external sources, and it significantly impacts how people think, feel, and behave.

Today, I want to highlight the profound impact of Ivan Pavlov's classical conditioning experiment on motivation, particularly in how external stimuli and reinforcement through learned associations influence behavior.

Pavlov is a Russian physiologist who became a pioneering figure in psychology and behavioral science due to his contributions to learning theories. In his famous experiment, Pavlov paired the sound of a bell (a neutral stimulus) with the presentation of food (an unconditioned stimulus) that naturally caused dogs to salivate (an unconditioned response). Over time, the dogs began to salivate in response to the bell alone, even without the food present. This showed that the bell (conditioned stimulus) now triggered salivation (conditioned response).

Pavlov’s experiment illustrates how repeated associations between certain actions or behaviors and rewards can increase motivation. For instance, when learners repeatedly associate specific behaviors with rewards from educators—such as praise, social recognition, or gifts—those behaviors become more motivated over time, much like the dogs salivating at the sound of the bell.

One key takeaway from this is that motivation doesn't always require forceful pressure to encourage learning. By leveraging this understanding of psychology, educators can effectively foster learning in a way that feels natural and engaging.

Dear Educators,

As our learners return to the classroom after the Christmas holiday, here are some tips to help engage them in active learning:

1. Encourage active participation by fostering collaboration among students during classroom activities.

2. Make learning relevant and interesting by using real-world examples and practical applications that connect classroom learning to students' lives.

3. Provide individualized support: Every student has unique learning needs. Offer tailored support and use diverse strategies and learning styles to engage all learners.

4. Act as a facilitator, not an authoritarian: Allowing students some autonomy and the freedom to make choices in their learning process can serve as a powerful motivator.

5. Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment by building a sense of community through team-building activities and incorporating Social Emotional Learning (SEL) to promote open communication among students.

May God bless you as you help our learners transition back to the classroom and continue their educational journey.

SUCCESSFUL PEOPLE WORK HARD AND WORK SMART

Hard work is essential to achieving success in life. It is the foundation of any great accomplishment. It’s the grit that pushes you to keep going when others quit. It’s the relentless effort you put in day after day, hour after hour. Hard work is where you build your character, sharpen your skills, and prove to yourself that you have what it takes to succeed. This is why the scripture in Proverbs 22:29 says, " _Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men."_

However, hard work alone won’t always get you to your destination. Sometimes, working hard without a strategic approach can lead to burnout, frustration, and wasted effort. That’s where working smart comes in.

Working smart isn’t about doing less work; it’s about doing the right work. It’s about being strategic with your time, energy, and resources. It’s about prioritizing tasks that truly move you forward and focusing on methods that deliver the best results in the least amount of time. It’s about leveraging technology, learning from mentors, and staying open to new, innovative approaches that save you time and maximize your impact.

The most successful people don’t just work harder than everyone else—they work smarter. They take time to plan, set clear goals, and adapt when necessary. They understand that success isn’t just about putting in the hours; it’s about making those hours count.

Remember, working hard without working smart is like pushing an object of the same weight but on different surfaces—no matter how hard you push a box, it won't move as fast as when you push a cylinder. When you combine hard work with smart choices, you create momentum that propels you toward success at a faster pace.

Dear friends, the future is in your hands. With both hard work and smart work, you can achieve greatness.

ENJOY A SPLENDID SUNDAY

THE POWER OF THE FIRST STEP

It’s a mistake to believe that the year 2025 will come without its challenges. Every year brings obstacles that feel overwhelming, moments that make us question our strength, our purpose, and our resolve. Yet, I’m here to remind you of something profoundly important: *the power of the first step* .

No matter how daunting the journey ahead may seem, the most crucial part of any challenge isn’t the distance you have to cover or the difficulties you may face—it’s the courage to take that first step. It’s the decision to move forward, even when fear whispers in your ear. It’s the act of starting, despite the uncertainty or overwhelm you might feel.

Remember, when the people of Israel journeyed toward the Promised Land, they were paralyzed by fear of the Egyptians coming behind and the Red Sea ahead. But it wasn’t until they took that first step forward, as God had commanded, that they began to move toward their destiny (Exodus 14:15). Therefore, every great achievement, every story of triumph, began with that one simple step. Meanwhile, the first step doesn’t need to be perfect or grand—it only needs to be taken, no matter how challenging. It is the spark that ignites progress, the foundation upon which dreams are built.

When the road feels uncertain and the weight of the journey makes you hesitate, remember: just take that first step. Trust that once you begin moving, momentum will carry you forward. Know that within you lies a strength you may not yet fully understand.

So, whatever it is you’re striving for—whether it’s a new career, a personal goal, a long-held dream/project, or a passion you’ve kept hidden—take the first step. It may be small, it may be quiet, but it will be the most powerful thing you do today.

Dear friends, the first step is the beginning of everything you want to achieve. Once you take it, the other steps toward the pinnacle of success will follow more easily. So, take that first step, no matter the challenges, and let it lead you to the success you deserve.

I see you moving forward from today!

YOU CAN’T WALK BACKWARD INTO THE FUTURE

It is far more valuable to focus on where you're going than to dwell on where you've been. Don't let your future be defined by the perspective of yesterday. It's easy to limit your potential by trying to quantify everything, suffocating the dream within you.

Edmund Burke wisely said, “The past should be a springboard, not a hammock.” You can never chart the future by looking to the past. No one can walk backward into the future. Those whose focus remains on yesterday aren't accomplishing much today. Your future holds more happiness than any past you can remember.

Mike Murdock put it this way: “Misery is a yesterday person trying to get along with a tomorrow God.” Don’t allow past mistakes to become monuments. They should be cremated, not embalmed.

Looking ahead is crucial, as your calling and destiny lie there.

The apostle Paul said, “Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 3:13–14).

Those who mostly speak of the past are going backward. Those who focus on the present are simply maintaining. But those who talk about the future are growing.

Some people are so entrenched in the past that the future passes them by before they even realize it. The future only frightens those who prefer living in the past.

No one has ever backed into prosperity. You can't have a brighter tomorrow if you're fixated on yesterday today. Yesterday is gone forever and beyond our control. What lies behind us is insignificant compared to what lies ahead.

Welcome to 2025.
