SOCIAL BONDING: TEACHER-LEARNER RELATIONSHIP

Yesterday morning, I saw a 2-year-old child who detached her hand from her mother and ran to embrace the school gateman. The mother watched in amazement, while I wondered why she didn’t run toward the awaiting teachers. That moment sparked the thought of social bonding.

Imagine if that passionate gateman were her teacher. I’m sure it would not be difficult for him to teach and nurture her. Mentorship, Counseling and Guidance services to the girl would be very easy.. In fact, he would help the girl thrive both academically and personally. This is the power of a passionate heart for learners—it fosters the social bonding necessary to cultivate healthy relationships between learners and educators, which leads to personal growth and better academic outcomes.

A strong social bond, in turn, creates a positive and productive educational environment, fostering emotional well-being essential for the personal development of learners. When teachers show genuine interest in their students' well-being and academic progress, students feel valued. This boosts their motivation and encourages them to strive for personal and academic growth. Interestingly, a positive teacher-student relationship also builds trust and respect. Trust between learners and teachers is foundational for effective communication and collaboration. When students trust their teachers, they are more likely to seek help, ask questions, and open up about their struggles, leading to improved learning outcomes. Are you a trusted and passionate Teacher?

Dear Educators, remember there are three loves you need to demonstrate to go beyond being a professional to become a passionate Teacher: LOVE of LEARNING, LOVE of the LEARNERS, and LOVE of Combining both. Genuinely love learning and your learners, and you will be amazed at the positive results you’ll see in your students.
