It is far more valuable to focus on where you're going than to dwell on where you've been. Don't let your future be defined by the perspective of yesterday. It's easy to limit your potential by trying to quantify everything, suffocating the dream within you.
Edmund Burke wisely said, “The past should be a springboard, not a hammock.” You can never chart the future by looking to the past. No one can walk backward into the future. Those whose focus remains on yesterday aren't accomplishing much today. Your future holds more happiness than any past you can remember.
Mike Murdock put it this way: “Misery is a yesterday person trying to get along with a tomorrow God.” Don’t allow past mistakes to become monuments. They should be cremated, not embalmed.
Looking ahead is crucial, as your calling and destiny lie there.
The apostle Paul said, “Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 3:13–14).
Those who mostly speak of the past are going backward. Those who focus on the present are simply maintaining. But those who talk about the future are growing.
Some people are so entrenched in the past that the future passes them by before they even realize it. The future only frightens those who prefer living in the past.
No one has ever backed into prosperity. You can't have a brighter tomorrow if you're fixated on yesterday today. Yesterday is gone forever and beyond our control. What lies behind us is insignificant compared to what lies ahead.
Dear friends, don't cast your mind on 2024 experiences anymore. Open up your heart to what's on your way. Behold God will do a new thing in this new year (Isaiah 43:18-19). There's a brightness a little way ahead.
Welcome to 2025.
