TEACHER AS A TRANSFORMATIONAL LEADER

The role of teachers in shaping the quality of education is crucial. They are expected to demonstrate leadership in their professional practices. Every teacher in a *leadership capacity* must cultivate strong relationships with their students. True leadership is essential to making the learning process effective and meaningful. In the 21st century, education demands teachers who possess a blend of pedagogical and leadership skills—teachers who can shape students to face the challenges and aspirations of today’s competitive world and prepare them to become future global leaders.

*TRIPARTITE NATURE OF AN IDEAL TEACHER*
An ideal teacher embodies three key personality traits:

 *ROLE MODEL:*
A role model is someone who inspires and encourages learners to strive for greatness, live to fullest potential, and see the best in themselves. They are individuals we admire and aspire to emulate. We learn from their commitment to excellence and their ability to help us realize our own personal growth. Learners look to them for advice and guidance.
Even from a distance, role models can influence deeply, serving as living sources of knowledge.

 *MENTOR* :
The teacher as a mentor guides students in understanding their life journey, helping them to take responsibility for both successes and failures, and to honour their commitments. Mentors empower students to see value in setbacks and to recognize their own strength and potential. They support students in making wise choices and growing personally. Some teachers are viewed as mentors not only through direct interaction but also by the example they set.

 *COACH* :
A teacher who acts as a coach focuses on *facilitating learning* and development, aiming to help students improve their performance. In this role, the classroom becomes a more flexible and open space compared to traditional models. It fosters a *culture of shared responsibility,* with continuous feedback between teachers and students. Teachers who emphasize cooperative learning and project-based work develop the capacity to serve as intellectual coaches.

In summary, a Role Model or Mentor will inspire their students, while a Coach will instruct them. Together, these three roles help *convert information into knowledge for transformation.*

God bless all the *TRANSFORMATIONAL LEADERS.*

DAILY WRAP-UP CHAT (DWC)*

*DAILY WRAP-UP CHAT (DWC)*

Are you a school owner or head looking to reduce the number of complaints from concerned parents about their children? One effective approach is to ensure your class teachers and student mentors consistently engage learners in a Daily WRAP-UP CHAT (DWC).

The Daily WRAP-UP CHAT is an end-of-day reflection or peaceful dismissal talk, typically held after the final bell. Its purpose is to ensure that every child is emotionally settled and ready to go home in peace.

A. *Guidelines for Class Teachers Conducting a Daily Home Readiness Talk (5-10mins)*

1. Gently observe learners for signs of injury, sadness, or stress.

2. Address any conflicts, concerns, or incidents that may have occurred during the day.

3. Provide learners with a safe space to reflect and feel heard.

4. Help prevent surprises or tensions when learners get home.

5. Facilitate short restorative conversations if needed.

6. Clarify any take-home messages or key learnings.

7. Communicate any important issues to parents through the school head when necessary.

B. *Important Questions for Daily Reflection*

"What was the best part of your day?"

"Was there anything that made you upset or confused?"

"How are you feeling right now?"
Use simple emotional scales for younger pupils (e.g., happy–sad–mad–anxious).

C. *To Conduct an Effective DWC*

The goal is to leave learners better than you met them. Subject teachers,  should be emotionally intelligent and learn to prevent issues from escalating. Therefore:

1. Help learners feel relaxed and comfortable.

2. Ask warm, open-ended questions.

3. Ensure every student receives attention over time.

4. Speak calmly and respectfully.

5. Document any noteworthy incidents or concerns.

Dear Educators, when children are supported to process and express their day before going home, they are more likely to communicate appropriately with parents. This not only reduces parental tension but also promotes students’ emotional well-being.

 *We wish you all-round peace.*

TIME IS LIFE

Time is the most precious resource we possess. Unlike money, possessions, or status, time cannot be earned back once lost. Every second, every minute, and every hour contributes to the essence of our existence. How we utilize time determines the quality of our lives, our achievements, and ultimately, our happiness.

Dear friends, Time *CANNOT* be:

๐Ÿ‘‰Stored

๐Ÿ‘‰Stretched

๐Ÿ‘‰Stopped

To make the most of our time, you can only manage time by investing it. Therefore, mastering the art of time management as stated below is essential.

✅ *Set Clear Goals:* Define what you want to accomplish daily, weekly, and long-term. Goals give direction and purpose to your actions.

✅ *Prioritize Tasks:* Identify the most important tasks and tackle them first. The Eisenhower Matrix (urgent vs. important) can help in prioritizing effectively.

✅ *Create a Schedule:* Plan your day with a to-do list or a planner. Setting specific time slots for tasks enhances productivity.

✅ *Avoid Procrastination:* Postponing tasks leads to stress and inefficiency. Break large tasks into smaller steps and take immediate action.

✅ *Eliminate Distractions:*
Social media, unnecessary phone calls, and unplanned interruptions can steal valuable time. Set boundaries to maintain focus.

✅ *Learn to Say No:*
Not every request deserves your time. Politely declining unimportant tasks helps keep your priorities on track.

✅ *Take BreaksWisely:*
Short breaks refresh the mind and boost creativity. (25 minutes work, 5 minutes break) can enhance focus.

✅ *Use Technology to Your Advantage:*
Productivity apps, calendars, and reminders can help keep you organized and efficient.

✅ *Reflect and Adjust:*
At the end of each day, reflect on how you spent your time and make necessary adjustments for improvement.

✅ *Maintain Work-Life Balance:*
Allocating time for personal well-being, relationships, and relaxation is crucial for a fulfilling life.

Dear friends, *Time is life itself;* when we waste it, we lose a part of our existence that we can never recover. Those who understand the importance of time cherish it, respect it, and use it wisely.

ENJOY THE REST OF YOUR DAY

A HOT-TEMPERED TEACHER HAS NO PLACE IN THE CLASSROOM

Imagine a student walking into class every day, unsure of what mood their teacher will be in. One wrong answer, one small mistake, and the teacher snaps—raising their voice, using harsh words, or even embarrassing the student in front of others. Instead of feeling safe and motivated to learn, that child becomes anxious, withdrawn, or even rebellious. This is the reality of a hot-tempered teacher, and no matter how qualified they are, their anger does more harm than good.

Teaching goes beyond possessing certificates and subject knowledge. A great teacher is patient, emotionally intelligent, and capable of managing stress without taking it out on students. When a teacher repeatedly loses their temper, students don’t learn effectively; they either shrink in fear or act out in defiance. In both cases, real education suffers.

The truth is, every teacher faces frustration—students can be difficult, the workload can be overwhelming, and personal struggles can add to the pressure. But frustration is never an excuse to lash out. Instead of reacting with anger, educators must develop better coping strategies: taking deep breaths, stepping away from heated situations, and finding constructive ways to handle misbehaviour.

A teacher’s role is to inspire, guide, and nurture. If anger gets in the way of that, it’s time to pause and reflect. At the end of the day, students may not remember every lesson taught, but they will always remember how their teacher made them feel. Let’s ensure they remember kindness, patience, and encouragement—not fear.

Dear Educators, learners will be more inquisitive especially during this period of revision towards Examinations. Please be patient and take the time to entertain their questions. Your patience goes a long way to boost learners' self-confidence. YOU'RE BLESSED!

FOSTERING LEARNERS' SELF-CONFIDENCE

" _Behind Learners who believe in themselves are teachers or educators/parents who believe in them first"_

1. The quote above highlights the importance of a parent's or teacher's belief in their children/learners in fostering self-belief among learners.

2. Teachers/Parents play a crucial role in shaping learners' confidence and self-belief (self-esteem).

3. Educators/Parents have important roles to play in inspiring young minds to work harder and strive for excellence.

Dear Educators/Parents,

๐Ÿ‘Tell them (learners)
they can push further.

๐Ÿ‘ Tell them they can fly.

๐Ÿ‘Tell them they have unique strengths to build positive self-image

๐Ÿ‘ Tell them they can confront their fears and diminish its power over time.

๐Ÿ‘ Tell them to practice positive self- talk and embrace failure as a learning opportunity.

๐Ÿ‘ Tell them they can overcome obstacles.

๐Ÿ‘ Tell them they can achieve their set goals and realize their big dreams

๐Ÿ‘ Encourage them to be Committed to Continuous Self-Improvement and surround themselves with supportive people ( *please be one of those who will support them* )

๐Ÿ‘Tell them they can do all things through Christ who strengthens them (Philipians 4:13)
✅ *And you will be amazed; they will!*

OUR CHILDREN WILL MAKE US PROUD IJN

 *ENJOY A TESTIMONY-FILLED THURSDAY.*

TRASHING YOUR MIND (TYM)

"Trashing Your Mind" (TYM) is about letting go of negative thoughts and unproductive ideas that can weigh down your happiness and productivity.

During one of my class observations as a school head, I asked students who were feeling unhappy that day to stand up. To my surprise, in every class I visited, almost half of the students stood. This realization led to the introduction of *TYM Day* —a designated time every Tuesday for students in my school (RPC) to clear their minds of negativity.

One student, whom I fondly call "Prof Dy," from JS 2, gave an unexpected response.
He shared that he was unhappy because his brother—his closest confidant (gist partner)—was leaving for university the next day. Ohh no! I empathized with him but quickly turned the moment into a celebration, reassuring him that technology would keep them connected. As we talked, he joined in the celebration, his face brightened, and together, we discarded the paper where he had written his feelings of sadness.

Dear teachers and parents,
Be mindful of how children feel—both in the classroom and at home. Help them discard negative thoughts that might hinder their productivity and well-being. You can't afford to have them physically present but mentally blocked by negativity. Instead, nurture their potential by encouraging open conversations and positive thinking.

God bless you as you relate well with children.
